PK-sf v47: How to build a Sustainable Future

Greetings SF Pecha Kucha people!

Hope y'all had a great summer! Now we're looking forward to it getting warm, finally. Coming up October 3rd, we will be stepping beyond the our usual focus on design to engage the bigger question facing the planet when we co-host our first event with both the Commonwealth Club of California* and Levi's. There's an excellent line-up coming together. The evening's format will be a bit new, tickets must be purchased on-line at the Commonwealth Club website:

http://www.commonwealthclub.org/events/2011-10-03/6-minutes-40-seconds-how-design-sustainable-future

October 3rd @ 6:00 PM
Levi's Auditorium, Levi's Plaza 1155 Battery St., San Francisco, CA

* "The Commonwealth Club of California is the nation's oldest and largest public affairs forum. We bring over 400 annual events on topics ranging across politics, culture, society and the economy to 15,000 members."

We hope you can make it! It'll be a whole scene, crowd, etc. & a good chance to see how sustainability is viewed from new and interesting perspectives.

cheers,

PKN vol.44 May 23rd, NEXT MONDAY

A little late notice, but we're hosting another event on Monday evening, the 23rd, at 330 Ritch.
A really great group of presenters has stepped up, and i think we'll be seeing a fantastic range of topics. We've got a community educator and artist, a bike-builder, a spirits distiller, a sustainable entrepreneur, a few industrial designers, and a sociologist, to name a few.
GRASSROOTS is the theme for May. Come hear about how design can be used for social, environmental, or even political activism and change. We've scheduled another event with the great folks at 330 Ritch for Monday, May 23rd at 8:20pm (doors at 7pm). We will be back at 330 Ritch, (after April 16th's brief detour to Yoshi's). Their helpful staff will be fixing drinks behind the bar and Little Skillet will be cooking up some delicious Fried Chicken & Waffles (w/hot sauce OR syrup), chicken sandwiches, amongst other things.

Great Night - Great Cause

Thank you PK-sf people,

Monday night's "Madness" fundraiser for Japan Earthquake relief raised money - ($1,500!)and awareness. And, on top of that, we kicked-off the global PechaKucha fund raising campaign for Japan Earthquake relief. We want to also thank the many RISD alums who reminded why that institution remains one of the top design schools in the world - fantastic work everyone. Notable among them was a local Pecha Kucha favorite, Joe Gebbia who not only shared his design rags (in his case butt pads) to riches story with the birth of Air B-n-B their fantastically successful venture connecting travelers with spaces -all online! He also handed-out $50 vouchers good at any AirBnB stay. Not bad. Throw in some more truely inspirational presentations and you've got another outstanding PK-sf evening. Date an theme for our May event will be announced soon - stay tuned.

Feel free to chime in here with comments or on Facebook - Follow us Twitter at @PechaKucha_SF

cheers!
